Earlier today, Honda issued a press release announcing that media and consumers will be given a first look at the U.S. spec version of the Clarity Fuel Cell sedan this week at the 2016 New York International Auto Show. Replacing the outgoing FCX Clarity, Clarity Fuel Cell is scheduled to go on sale in select markets before the end of the year.
A major innovation of the new Clarity is a fuel cell stack that is 33 percent more compact that its predecessor. Comparable in size to a V-6 engine, the extra space allows for a larger cabin with seating for five passengers. The U.S. EPA driving range is expected to exceed 300 miles, and refueling should take no longer than 3-5 minutes.
A leader in delivering that latest in-car connected technologies Honda has added support for in-car smartphone connectivity and app-based services such as streaming and navigation. Also available will be Honda's Sensing suite of driver-assistance technologies including Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Road Departure Mitigation (RDM).
"We're pleased to be able to offer this first look at the U.S. version of the Clarity Fuel Cell sedan in advance of its market arrival later this year," said John Mendel, executive vice president, Automobile Division, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "The Clarity Fuel Cell is the first in an expanding portfolio of advanced electrified vehicles from Honda that will create a new pillar in our product lineup."
