Honda is a globally renowned automaker with a reputation for creating innovative new vehicles like the 2017 Accord Sedan. There are areas outside of the automotive realm where Honda is innovating, as well. One such area where Honda has a huge impact is education. Using its close ties to both the United States and Japan, the automaker created the TOMODACHI Honda Cultural Exchange Program. Most recently, Honda turned its attention to the Tohoku Region, which was affected by natural disasters, to sponsor groups of Japanese high school students who visited California for two weeks to learn about American culture.
Music is the primary medium through which Japanese students in Honda’s exchange program learn about American cultural traditions. On the other hand, the high schoolers from Japan also leave their mark on American culture by demonstrating their musical traditions to local California students and residents at events like the Rose Parade, of which Honda is an official sponsor, as well. Additional learning opportunities that Honda provides to the Japanese students include tours of local California businesses and high schools.
